The end of the year often brings changes to employee benefits in many organizations, as tax authorities typically review the taxable values of staff and fringe benefits toward the end of the year. Questions often come up about changes to the meal benefit value and what, if anything, needs to be done in the Epassi system in December. You’ll find the answers in this blog article.
What changes do I need to make in Epassi?
If you’re planning to make changes to employee benefits for next year, you can do so easily in the Epassi web service. If your benefits will remain the same as this year, there’s no need to update your settings. That said, it’s a good idea to review them at least once a year, just to make sure everything is exactly as it should be.
Do I need to update the value of the meal benefit?
Epassi’s automation is designed so that if you’ve offered the meal benefit at the maximum value (13.70 €) during the current year, the system will automatically update the maximum value for the next year as well. So if you plan to continue offering the meal benefit at the tax authority’s maximum level, there’s nothing you need to do.
If you’d like to offer the meal benefit at a lower value than the maximum, you’ll need to make that change yourself.
How can I edit benefits in Epassi myself?
With Epassi, distributing, managing, and editing benefits is easy. Benefits aren’t manually allocated to employees – our automation takes care of that for you. Set the rules once, get comfortable, and let the automation do the work.

How long can I make updates?
If you’re not making any changes to next year’s benefits, there’s no need to update your settings.
If changes are needed, remember to make them by 31.12.2025 at the latest.
We recommend setting aside a small moment in both December and January to prepare for the upcoming benefit year. That way, your employee benefits will be ready for use right from the start of the year, and your employees can get the most out of them!
