How to use lunch benefit
A lunch benefit builds wellbeing into every workday. In the middle of a busy schedule, it gives employees a moment to step away – and that break has a lasting effect.
How does lunch benefit work?
Your employer sets the daily value of the lunch benefit, within the limits defined by the Finnish Tax Administration. In 2026, those limits are 8,80–14,00 € per working day. Your employer also decides how the benefit is provided: as part of your salary or on top of it.
The most common approach with Epassi is to deduct the employee's share from their salary after the fact. Epassi generates a monthly summary report to make this straightforward. The employee's share is 75 % of the meal price, or at minimum 8,80 €.

A great lunch with a lighter top-up.
Why should you make the most of your lunch benefit?
Everyone has the same thought at some point: "What should I eat today?" Every day, that question takes time and energy away from everything else.
Using your lunch benefit makes your day easier — the hard part is already done for you: menus are set in advance, and you don't spend time cooking. Pay for lunch with Epassi and focus on what matters to you.
How often can you use your lunch benefit?
Epassi applies a maximum number of lunch benefit uses per year, in line with Finnish Tax Administration guidelines. This number is typically the total working days in a calendar year minus five weeks of holiday.
The Epassi app shows how many uses you have left. Once you reach the limit, you cannot use the lunch benefit again — even if your lunch balance still has funds remaining.
